As a rule computer do not get slow by time. They slow down normally because the software installed interferes with the speed.
One has to be careful when installing or downloading software. In order to get the best computing experience possible never download any software having minimum specifications that exceed those of your computer.
So here are a few tips that I use when my computer seems to be lagging slightly. They are very easy to follow.
Use a Defragmenter
Defragmenting your hard drive would give you results immediately. To perform Disk Defragmenter go to Accessories – System Tools.
Delete Unwanted Files/Folders
If there are any old files or folders in the computer that you have not used lately and maybe you will never use them, you may want to delete these. Freeing up your hard drive from these unused files or folders would definitely increase your computer speed.
Scan For Spyware
Because you use Internet, Spyware and Adware get into your computer on a daily basis. I regard these as being the main offenders in slowing down the computer. My personal advice is to use Spybot. It is free to download.
Check For Viruses
I teach ICT and although it sounds obvious, most of my student’s computer do not have an anti-virus software installed. No wonder they complain that there computer gets very sluggish. I recommend you to purchase a decent anti-virus but if you are low on budget consider downloading Avast, a good free program.
Clean Up Your Registry
Very often the computer still seems to be sluggish even after scanning for Spyware and Viruses. We attribute this slowness to registry faults that occur on a day-to-day basis, sometimes occurring on their own.
So, in order to clear up your registry and fix these faults you need a registry cleaner. I really recommend using Registry Easy. I have been using it for some time now and I have no problems with it, apart from the fact that the computer’s performance is very satisfactory.
